Let’s start with a quick chat about the fishbowl fallacy. What’s a fallacy you ask? Well according to the Webster dictionary it is a false or mistaken idea. So, what is this false or mistaken idea about fishbowls you ask? The mistake is that we have been led to believe that a fishbowl is somehow a proper home for a fish! Goldfish can be and awesome addition to your household. They are very intelligent and very beautiful fish. However, there are some cons you should consider before getting to attached to the idea! Goldfish do produce a lot of waste which commonly builds up ammonia in the tank. This buildup can cause ammonia burns and poison your fish. 

Some easy ways to avoid this problem are…

– Making sure you are starting off with a big enough tank

– Not using a heater in your tank

– Use gravel in the bottom of your tank

-Use an extra strong filter 

– CLEAN THE TANK REGULARLY!!!

A goldfish, on average, can be 8-12 inches depending on the type and their DNA. They should reach their adult size at about 1 year old. Here is where things get a bit tricky… IF you keep a goldfish in a bowl or small tank then your goldfish will not outgrow the body of water you have provided. However, its adult size is prede
